Welcome to "Hearn's House"!
Welcome to my super awesome website!! I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about myself. I am in my 29th year of teaching English. I have experience with all four levels of English, including AP Language, AP Literature and IB English. I achieved my National Board Certification in 2002 and successfully completed my renewal in 2010 and 2022! I am a cum laude graduate of Appalachian State University (Go Apps!) with an English major and a Theatre minor.
Mr. Hearn and I have been married for 27 years, and we have an amazing son named Brayden who is in his second year at NCSU! I love football, hockey and tailgating; fall weekends are filled with ASU and professional games! We love to travel: especially to the coast :)
Below you will find a copy of my "boast" (in Anglo-Saxon literature the boast was the way a hero introduced himself).
Hail Juniors, skilled knowledge seekers!
I am Daughter of Laurel, Dogwood
enveloped the home of my youth.
Many were my days by the streams,
Schooled in the ways of my Mother
Nature and in the art of the WORD.
Lover of lyric, I sing praise
for poem, novel, drama and speech.
My fame is far flung for crafting
the dreaded slack student foiler.
Twenty nine autumns have delivered
me to the land of literary truth.
Skillfully I unlock secrets
Of the ancient masters of prose.
Beyond these walls I am most prized
As confection creator, mistress of
Cakes moist and tasty. Many
Are my culinary talents.
Hostess to hoards of tailgate feasters!
In the Majestic Mountains or by the
Sandy sea shoulder I thrive.
Though my talents are mighty
My pride lies as wife and mother.
Wife of Hearn, master of instrument and voice.
Mother of Brayden, lord of the stage.
As the years fly on strange swift feet
My glory will spread through the land!
All will remember my teachings
And the wit of my many tales!
